As I’ve mentioned, “Evidence” has to be Part 1 of the plan to restore Sherlock Holmes’ reputation. So I’ve been researching Richard Brook, whom you all know is the supposed actor / exploited old friend of Mr. Holmes who “pretended” to be James Moriarty. *pause for laughs…* I tracked down the children’s TV show Kitty Riley claims he hosted, “The Story-Teller of Story-Vale” (dreadful name). I had quite a time of it; out of print on Amazon, couldn’t find it in any shops. Finally got a copy off someone on eBay. My camera is complete rubbish so I’ve scanned the cover as well (scanner also rubbish…)

Last night I marathoned it. Haven’t the means to rip it, but let me tell you… it’s seriously trite, cliche kiddie drivel… terrible production quality… he’s got a talking hedgehog and otter as sidekicks, for crying out loud (does anyone else think that sweater looks like one of Dr. Watson’s? I’m unravelling here). But I’d give Rich Brook a BAFTA for it. Or, rather, Jim Moriarty a BAFTA. And an Oscar and an Empire Award and a Pulitzer or basically ALL THE AWARDS. 

Because of one simple fact: this is a psychopathic serial killer masquerading as a children’s television host, and for a little while I FORGOT who he was. For one split second during “The Twelve Dancing Princesses”, he had me believing that maybe I was wrong, maybe he WAS just an actor. He smiled, he laughed… and he got into my head and rewrote history. Just for a second. One moment he had me and it nearly brought the whole house of cards crashing down. 

Maybe it’s exhaustion but even writing this it gives me chills. Now I realise what we’re up against, it terrifies me. It makes me afraid for the future of our cause. We can’t let our resolve be shaken for even one moment… and I am shaken. 

Can we really do this… ?
