The SHERLOCK Breakfast Club: Sherlock Holmes' Birthday Brunch Jan 6 ›

January 6th ——It’s Sherlock Holmes’ Birthday!!!!!

Come and join a celebratory birthday brunch for our guy!  Cake!  Breakfast!  Once again at Ye Olde King’s Head Pub — but this time we have a private room guaranteed!

We’ll be screening Granada’s Blue Carbuncle in honor of the recent holiday.  There will be a quiz on that story, this time with a small prize for the winner!

Suggest you read it online first, as the quiz will happen before the screening.  Here’s where to find it online for free.

Brunch is no host, so you’ll need to pay for your own food while you are there, but cake is on your host.

Join us and bring some new Sherlockians with you.   Do RSVP!   Bring your favorite pastiche and tell us about it.

See you soon!

LA Sherlockians! Behold The SHERLOCK Breakfast Club ›

Love Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman on BBC Sherlock?  More of a Jeremy Brett/Edward Hardwicke fan?  How about Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law?  By the time of our first meeting there will be a Johnny Lee Miller/Lucy Liu version!

Whoever your favorite recent Sherlock and Watson might be… this is a group to share your enthusiasm, while at the same time returning to the source that informed all these great performances ….Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Sherlock Holmes stories.

Our initial plan is to meet monthly for breakfast or coffee, having read the monthly story by Doyle, and discuss!  Other activities might include screenings of favorite screen versions as a group.

All ages and all Sherlockian fans welcome.

First meeting on SUNDAY!

Sherlock Holmes expert Leslie Klinger to speak at Chapman University this Saturday, Sept. 22

We invite all Sherlock Holmes fans in the greater Los Angeles area to come and enjoy a FREE talk by Leslie S. Klinger, one of the world’s foremost Holmes experts, this Saturday, September 22 at noon, at Chapman University in Orange, California.  He’ll be appearing as part of the university’s first Big Orange Book Festival (Friday and Saturday, www.bigorangebookfestival.com).  I’m excited that I’ll have the honor of finally meeting Les in person and of introducing him to the audience, as I’m a huge fan!  As you probably know, he’s the editor/annotator of the magisterial The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes, editor of many, many other Holmesian works, including the fabulous recent short story collection A Study in Sherlock, and serves as techical advisor for the Warner Bros Sherlock Holmes movies starring Robert Downey Jr.  He’s also one of the world’s top experts on Dracula (The Annotated Dracula), and his most recent work is a 4-volume annotated edition of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman.  He’ll no doubt be happily discussing any or all of the above, as the audience wishes, and he’ll hold a book signing following the talk (books will be on sale) and at the festival’s Mystery Ink booth later.  Feel free to email me for more info, or visit the festival website.  Chapman U. is located at One University Drive in Orange, CA. — Mary Platt, director of communications, Chapman University (platt AT chapman DOT edu)

There's Something About Noodles . . .: ATTENTION LOS ANGELES SHERLOCKIANS! ›

somethingaboutnoodles:

Hello, my name is “Noodles” Kay. I would love to find Sherlockians for a regular meet up in West Los Angeles. It would probably take place at The Spot in Culver City on Overland Blvd., but the venue may change based on the response I get (bigger or in a different location).

These meetups would…

Los Angeles Sherlockians? Holla back.

So-Cal SuperWhoLock Tumblr BBQ and Scavenger Hunt ›

Dearest Tumblr,

I am very glad to say we’re back at it once again, this time with another meet-up at the beautiful Griffith Park. After the amazing times we’ve had at our last few gatherings ( with almost 70 Hunters, Time Lords, Consulting Detectives, and Super heroes turning out for our Anime Expo meet-up! ) I am very happy present to you the event page for the So-Cal SuperWhoLock Tumblr BBQ and Scavenger Hunt!

We’ll be getting together on Saturday the 18th of August at NOON @ Griffith Park’s Old Zoo in the lovely city of Los Angeles for an end of the summer BBQ and panfandom scavenger hunt! ( Complete with the usual temporal wibble wobbles and a whopping helping of super hero activity! ) Everyone ( No, really, everyone! The event is open invitation! - come on guys I say this every time and it’s like you still don’t believe me. Everyone means you! ) is welcome to attend, and cosplay is, as always, welcome and encouraged!

Even if you can’t make it, please reblog this if you know anyone who might be interested in coming, we love meeting new people, and we’ve made some amazing friends that last few months. ( Including the wonderful people who put together the Colorado Superwholock meetup! ) It’s always a shame to see people who miss out on the events purely for not knowing it was going on. Signal boost the hell out of this! Unless you’re in with Crowley, or work for a certain Consulting Criminal.

If you’re interested, there’s more information available on the event page. Hope to see you there!

( Also, for those of you interested in this and future events, I suggest you also check out our FB group page, and track us on the #superwholockla tag)

shesreadingagain asked: Do you know of any groups like SherlockNYC in the Los Angeles area? :P

Here’s a shout out! I know the Bay Area Sherlockians is a thing, but not sure if there’s anything LA centric.
