From CraftyCrafty

Do you swoon over all things Sherlock? Wear your deerstalker hat at all times? Insist on calling your best friend Watson and hanging around Baker Street stroking your chin? Then Crafty Crafty invites you to take part in the ultimate Sherlock Holmes competition.

We’ve teamed up with the folks at Sherlock Holmes Week, which will run from 30th July - 5th August, to ask crafty fans and emerging or established fashion designers to show their Sherlock love by designing a costume for six characters from the BBC Sherlock Series 1 and 2.

It’s your chance show the Sherlock Holmes world your talents and express your love for the splendiferous sleuth. You can choose to submit a design for six of the characters: from

  • Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch)
  • Doctor Watson (Martin Freeman)
  • Irene Adler (Lara Pulver)
  • Mycroft Holmes (Mark Gatiss)
  • Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs)
  • Molly Hooper (Louise Brealey)

The best three outfits for each character will be selected by us here at Crafty Crafty, and entered into the Sherlock Holmes Week Fashion Awards - with some very special judges and wonderful prizes (to be announced).

To enter, just email your entry to fashioncompetition@sherlockholmesweek.com, with the subject line the character you want to design for (e.g. Sherlock Holmes costume) and attach your design as a jpeg (no larger than 1MB in size, please). The closing date for entries is midnight UK time on 31st July.

Designs that really make us ooo and ahhh will be shown off to the craft world here and on our sister site Dollymix. It’s a great chance to let your imagination run wild and prove yourself to be a crafty criminal-chasing mastermind.

Find out more about Sherlock Holmes week events, competitions and other Sherlock stuff over at the Sherlock Holmes week website. It’s elementary, my dear crafters!

Babes Jenn, Lyndsay, and Amy have a chat with three of the people behind the Steampunk Holmes project.  Producer Richard Monson-Haefel, author P.C. Martin, and artist Daniel Cortes talk about how the idea of mashing Sherlock Holmes and steampunk together came to life.  Holmes rides a steampunk motorcycle with sidecar! Watson has a bionic arm! Mycroft is a female! How cool is that?!?

The Steampunk Holmes project is authorized by the Arthur Conan Doyle Estate and is a labor of love for these three.  Currently, they are in need of your help.  Steampunk Holmes has launched a Kickstarter Campaign to help raise funds to complete their interative iPad application of Steampunk Holmes: Legacy of the Nautilus.  Everyone who donates gets some amazing gifts for helping.  You can donate here.

As a special thank you to our listeners, the Steampunk Holmes creators are offering a FREE download of the e-pub version of Steampunk Holmes: Legacy of the Nautilus.  To claim the free download, go to Smashwords, choose your preferred format of the e-book, and enter the code UN78D when you check out.  It’s as simple as that!

Trust us.  You won’t be disappointed.
